Biography
Marco Molino graduated in Percussion Instruments at the age of twenty with top marks and honors and graduated with 110 honors and mention at the “L. Perosi” Conservatory of Campobasso. He dedicates himself to the study of percussion and in particular drum, marimba, vibraphone, timpani and frame drums. He attended the advanced training course in ‘Timpani and percussion’ at the Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia. He follows master classes with the masters Roberto Gatto, Agostino Marangolo, Mike Quinn, Casey Cangelosi, Lele Melotti, Arnaldo Vacca, Nando Russo, Fabian Perez Tedesco, Daniela Ganeva and David Friedman. He takes part in national and international competitions obtaining brilliant results: winner of the Best Graduates of Italy Competition held in Castrocaro Terme, at the National Competition for Ensemble Music he receives a special mention as best performer in the percussion instruments section, winner in the ‘Snare Drum’ section and the ‘keyboards and piano’ section of the prestigious ‘International Competition’ of Montebello della Battaglia, first prize overall in the ensemble music section at the International Piano Competition of Rocchetta al Volturno. He passed a selection announced by Vatican Radio as a marimbist and recorded, in their studios, the piece Restless by Rich O’Meira broadcast on medium waves by the same station. He recorded the ‘Concerto for Marimba and Strings’ by Emmanuel Sejournèe for the important magazine ‘Suonare News’. He collaborates with various orchestral and chamber groups, among the various experiences the tour in China with the ‘Naples Royal Orchestra’. Since 2016, together with the clarinetist Vittorio Sabelli, he has created the Chorando project, a choro music duo, with which he holds concerts for Italian concert associations and boasts a tour in Brazil, in March 2018, for a series of Concerts and Masterclasses. He held a master on ‘frame drums, the Italian popular tradition’ at the Superior Conservatory of Pamplona. Since 2018 he has been a percussionist for the show ‘La Divina Commedia Opera Musical’ on tour in the major Italian theaters and since 2019 he has been a drummer and multi-instrumentalist for the theatrical show ‘Van Gogh Cafè’. He is involved in social work and is the promoter of the event ‘La vita è l’arte dell’Incntro’, a project that every year hosts percussionist children from the Arte no Dique Institute in Italy, a social project that arises in the heart of the Santos favela (Brazil). In 2021 he published the book ‘Five choros for Clarinet and Marimba’, a collection of personal arrangements and transcriptions of five choros pieces for marimba and clarinet. In 2022 he created the vibraphone and accordion chamber duo project with the accordionist Manuel Petti, holding concerts for concert associations in Italy and abroad (Germany, Corsica) and for important jazz festivals. In 2024 the duo was a guest at the Italian Cultural Institute in Wolfsburg. Since 2023 he has been the percussionist/vibraphonist of the singer- songwriter Max Gazzè in the Amor Fabulas-Preludio, Amor Fabulas Interludio and Musicae Loci Max Gazzè tours. Since 2018 he has been the artistic director of the event ‘Noi…Artisti di Questa Terra’. As artistic director he has collaborated with Nicola Piovani, Lina Sastri, Simone Cristicchi, Paolo Belli, Mario Venuti, Simona Molinari. He is currently a percussionist for the Orchestra Sinfonica del Molise (OSM), a multi-instrumentalist in chamber and theater groups, and is involved in recording work for various musical projects. He combines his concert activity with teaching. He is currently a full professor of Performance and Interpretation of Percussion Instruments at the Paolo Emilio Imbriani Music High School in Avellino.
