Andrea Pazienza The comic strip genius
Andrea Pazienza was one of the most important figures in Italian art in the 1970s and 1980s. He has been described as the Mozart of comics, portraying the contradictions of his generation through drawings, stories and irresistible characters, he left us in 1988, passing away at just 32 years of age. With 15 descriptive panels, two audio/video points, original artworks from the Comandini collection and precious material from SPLASH, the “Andrea Pazienza” Bibliographic Archive of the museum MAT: Museo dell'Alto Tavoliere, in the town of San Severo, Italy, this exhibition casts new light on a comic genius while providing a fascinating portrait of Italy at that time.
With Marina Comandini & Antonello Vigliaroli
introduced by Allegra Iafrate
Taking centre stage to mark the opening of the exhibition, the acting director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels, Allegra Iafrate, will moderate a talk with the event’s curators, Marina Comandini, Andrea Pazienza’s wife, and Antonello Vigliaroli, who is in charge of SPLASH, the “Andrea Pazienza” Bibliographic Archive in San Severo, where the artist spent his childhood.
